Cherise Bacalski

Cherise Bacalski is an appellate attorney with a strong interest in helping clients win in the first instance with superior motion practice in district courts. She started her career in the Criminal Appeals division of the Utah Attorney General’s office, giving her insight into both sides of a case. Her clerkships at the Utah Supreme Court and Utah Court of Appeals provide her with a clear understanding of what judges need to rule in favor of her clients.

At Lotus Appellate Law, Bacalski handles opening briefs and petitions for certiorari in Utah and California appellate courts. She has worked on numerous criminal and civil appeals, filed successful petitions, and contributed to well over a hundred appellate cases. Bacalski has argued in front of the Utah Supreme Court, Utah Court of Appeals, and California Court of Appeal.

With advanced degrees in writing and rhetoric, Bacalski spent nearly a decade teaching at Brigham Young University. Now she teaches at BYU Law where she has led the Appellate Practice Clinic, taught Moot Court, and is currently teaching Appellate Brief Writing. She is former Section Chair of the Appellate Practice Section of the Utah Bar and is involved with Women Lawyers of Utah.
